DOCTORS

DR. JOHN GRUNER

M.B.B.S. , F.R.A.C.G.P,Dip. OBSTETRICS, Dip Acupuncture, Masters of Bioethics
General Practitioner

Dr John Gruner  started  at Selby Family Clinic in 1995, and opened the Monbulk Clinic in June 1999. In addition he is available at Selby and Kallista Medical Centre. John is married to a local, Kirsti, and they have 4 offspring.  John’s interests are playing chamber music, singing, horticulture and goats. John completed his obstetrics diploma in 1992 and worked at the Children’s Hospital in 1991.  He is interested in the broad range of general practice, from kids to “mature” people with complex problems.  He has completed a Master of Bioethics, to do with the ethics of complementary medicine due to his past training in  Medical Acupuncture. John is an examiner for the Royal College of General Practice and Deakin and Monash Universities and is a Registrar supervisor. In 2011 he started his PhD in bioethics due to finish in 2021. He fiddles in the Australian Doctor's Orchestra, Nicholas Chamber Orchestra and "Clunes Music". 

DR. MICHAEL BANNING

Dr Michael Banning has been working at Selby Family Clinic since 2005. Before then he was a partner in a practice in England for 15 years. Mike is trained in all aspects of general practice but his special interests include diabetes and paediatrics. He runs a diabetes clinic at Selby supported in this by a Diabetes Nurse Educator.
Outside of medicine Mike is married to Sue and has two sons at Monash University. His non-medical interests include cycling, music and steam railways.

DR. BRYONY TAYLOR

General Practitioner
Dr. Bryony Taylor​ moved from Scotland at the beginning of 2011. Since that time she has been living in Melbourne with her husband and two young children. Bryony graduated from Cambridge University in the UK in 2004 and also completed specialist training in the UK.
Her training in General Practice was with an emphasis in Emergency Medicine, Paediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. She began working at Selby Family Clinic in February 2012 and is enjoying serving her local community.

DR. SLAVKO TOKANOVIC

General Practitioner

Dr Slavko Tokanovic  was a Registrar in 2019 but will be providing locum services for us. Originally from Melbourne, Slavko graduated from the University of Notre Dame (Sydney/Melbourne) in 2011. He completed his internship at Alfred Health and his residency at Monash Hospital. He appreciates travelling and has worked and lived in Darwin (Northern Territory) and Perth (Western Australia). He has a keen interest in Veterans health, rural and travel medicine. Dr Tokanovic works part time at the practice and speaks Serbian.

DR. HEATHER ALLEN

General Practitioner

Dr Heather Allen is a GP of more than 30 years experience, who has worked much of her GP days in the “Hills” including Olinda, Belgrave and now Selby. She loves the diversity of health. She encourages patients to be an important part of their own “health team” and is happy to work with other health practitioners, including those using complementary or natural health modalities, in helping people achieve their desired outcomes.
She has a special interest in women’s health and the emerging area of women’s hormones (how imbalance in such areas can cause so many problems.) She uses bio-identical hormones to try and address these issues as well as other approaches. This is part of a new concept in Australia of anti-aging medicine, an area in which Dr Allen is gradually becoming more interested and experienced. However, what she most loves about her work is looking after her community and the families and individuals that live in it.


DR. LINDA HOCKING

General Practitioner
Dr. Linda Hocking graduated from Melbourne University in 1981. Following her internship at Box Hill Hospital, she worked in the United Kingdom in general medicine and paediatrics, completing a Diploma in Child Health.
Linda’s interests are in family and women’s health issues, she lives locally and has worked for sixteen years at Belgrave Health Care and the last five years at Selby Family Clinic.

DR. WENDY LI 

MB BCh (Wales), DCH, MAppSc (Chin Herb Med), FRACGP
General Practitioner
Dr. Wendy Li​ graduated from the UK in 1989 and worked in the rural Welsh valleys as a General Practitioner and as a Community Paediatrician with a focus on children with special needs. Her interests are in developmental paediatrics, adolescent health and preventative medicine.  She has post graduate diplomas in child health and completed the SH&FPA Certificate in Sexual and Reproductive Health.  Wendy has also completed a Masters in Chinese Herbal Medicine.  She was awarded the Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2016. She is married with two grown up children, and she loves reading, art, travelling and her two dogs.

REGISTRARS

Dr Priscilla Paterson

'Dr Priscilla Paterson is our Registrar who is with us from August 2020 to February 2021. She graduated from the University of Melbourne in 2017. She has since completed terms in general medicine, general surgery, orthopaedic surgery, emergency medicine and paediatrics at Box Hill Hospital, Maroondah Hospital and Angliss Hospital. She has also completed a diploma of child health with the University of Sydney. She enjoys talking to people of all age groups in General Practice and is passionate about providing holistic care for her patients. In her free time, Priscilla enjoys hiking, spending time with friends and family, and playing the violin.
NURSES
Nicole & Gay
Our nurses  who offer a wide variety of treatment room services such as triaging, wound care, Immunisations, Ear syringes, spirometry, venesections, Health Assessments as well as assisting Doctors with procedures. Our nurses also run our Chronic Disease Clinics which open up services to patients with more complex needs. Patients with a complex chronic illness are entitled to 5 funded paramedical services a year.
